Kindness Challenge Results - 2019
Marci Nauman
Communications Coordinator

November 12 – 17 was Kindness Challenge week, where we challenged you to intentionally show kindness to your world, co-workers, self, community, and friends & Family. We pledged to donate canned goods for every person who participated. At the end of the week, we had 125 participants complete the challenge! Last week, County Administration, Commissioners, MCG Human Resources, and the YourChoice Team donated 125+ cans for the Food Bank of Manatee.

Participants represented almost every division in the County, with top participating departments including Tax Collector and Neighborhood Services. The reasons given as to why they participated, most people indicated they just wanted to spread kindness, and it helped that the County would be giving back by donating food items to the Food Bank.

Participants had some great stories to share! Here are some of our favorites:
  • Tina Friddle and her co-workers at PW Transit donated turkeys to “T-shirts for Turkeys”.
  • “World Kindness Day helped me realize how much I can do every day to show kindness to the world.”
  • Several participants bought food or coffee for their co-workers.
  • “Made breakfast and brought blankets for a homeless neighbor.”
  • Several participants wrote notes of thanks/encouragement for their coworkers
  • “Helped my neighbor with a project and involved my children in helping as well!”
  • “Brought a gluten free grocery item that a co-worker had been looking for and couldn't find.”
  • Several participants picked up litter and/or engaged in recycling.
  • A few participants treated themselves to some extra sleep as an act of self-kindness.
  • “I enjoyed making my coworkers happy with simple, kind compliments.”
  • A lot of participants took time to tell their spouse/significant other/friend why they love them.
  • Lots of pet snuggles, volunteering, and smiling at strangers :-D

You are all awesome and inspiring! Keep showing kindness – every act of kindness benefits both you and the person receiving it, and spreads positivity in our world.
