February is American Heart Month – a great reminder to assess your risk for heart disease, talk to your doctor about your heart health and make lifestyle changes to reduce your risk. Check out the recent Nurse Advocate Newsletter for information related to heart disease.
It’s also a great time to educate yourself on the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. A heart attack doesn't always feel like we might expect. In 2018, Manatee YourChoice, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, and Dr. Albert Avila from The Center for Urgent Care worked together to create an educational video about Heart Health. While it is geared towards those in law enforcement, it is applicable to everyone.
In this highly informative 15-minute video, Deputy Christopher Ricci discusses his experience and symptoms of a heart attack that were much less dramatic than what we’re used to seeing on TV. Dr. Avila provides information about risk factors, what you can do to maximize your heart health, and when to see a doctor.
If you have any questions about your heart, please talk to your doctor. If you have questions about tests that are covered by the YourChoice Health Plan or need guidance on how you can reduce your risk for heart disease, contact a Nurse Advocate at 941-741-2963 option 3.
